20th Century Fox Joins the 21st Century... but Does it Succeed?
20th Century Fox recently presented an updated identity, modifying their name to the more current “21st Century Fox”. Along with the updated name came an updated logo which now represents Fox News, Fox Broadcasting and the former 20th Century Fox film studio as one organization.
The new logo is heavily influenced by the trend of Flat Design, one which has become a topic of debate within the design industry. I happen to be a fan of Flat Design when it is used successfully; however, I feel that Fox has missed the mark here. For me, the tracking between letters is pretty tough on the eyes; overall the logo seems unfinished and out of touch, leaving me (and other critics) underwhelmed. Even more underwhelming is the amateur looking animation (also shown below) to go with the logo. Had this been a new studio without a previous identity, I think it may have been more successful; But because of what we have come to expect of the mega-studio I feel that this was a missed opportunity to seamlessly update an already established and iconic identity.
Is the old addage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fox (err… fix) it” a piece of advice that Fox should have listened to, or do you think the update outshines the previous logo and successfully ushers Fox into the 21st Century? Share your thoughts below!
